Preparing for the Final Journal

The advice I would give to students in this course next semester is to never give up. I know it is very disappointing when you find out that your skills were not good enough for English 101 and you have to take a lower class instead of the one you needed but Univ 150 is a great class. Even if you come into the class as a horrible writer when you leave the class at the end of the semester you will have the skills to jump right into that next level. I thought this class would be a waste of time and just another class I had to pass to move on with the classes I really needed. However, this class has really helped me for the long run. Now when I write an essay I know what teachers are looking for. As long as you do all the work and come to class many skills can be learned. One little skill can make a big difference. The most valuable aspects of this course for me was learning that there are a lot of little skills that I needed to learn in order to make my essays be the best they can be. The least valuable aspects of this course was actually having to write essays. Even though the essays were short it was still hard having to write essays over and over. However, I do know the more you write the better you become.

Journal: Preparing for the Reflective Essay

In my opinion, this semester has been great for me in the class of Univ 150.  I have improved a lot of my writing skills. For example, I improved on how I use commas even though I still need  a little work on it . I have improved on not having so many fragment statements and my sentence structure. Basically, I improved on everything. This does not mean I am a pro at writing now because that is not true but I have became a stronger writer. I also improved on organization.  I still need work on my verb tenses because they are not as strong as they could be. For example, sometimes I use goes when I should use go and was and were. I will get better on this because I will study the rules of when I use each one. There were a lot of different activities we used that has helped me throughout the entire course. For instance, the lesson on when to use a comma and when to use a semi colon allowed me to kill to birds with one stone. The reason I say this is because that lesson helped me stop having fragment statements and it helped me not have as much comma mistakes.  Another activity that has been very helpful for me was in the beginning of the semester when we went over things like clauses. This really helped me because I did not think I really needed to know that but that helped me figure out when I needed to use a comma and when I did not.

Journal Plans for Oral Presentation #2

When you are in a group there is a lot of things that go with it. For example, everyone has to work together equally. No one should do more than the other and everyone has to agree on how we will get the task done. In the first presentation my group got points taking off because I spoke the most however I do not think that was fare because everyone in my group helped out equal just some people do not like to speak. So this time around we will make sure everyone speaks the same amount of time. My responsible for this presentation is to make sure I do not talk that much. Also, well will have to add more information in order to speak for a long time. This is because we have to make sure we  meet the time requirement. The thing that is easy about this assignment is that we get to work together and it is easier to do something if in a group. The difficult thing about this presentation is the topic because if it is sometime we had to choose out of anything it would have not been thesis statements. My plans for working on the presentation is to spilt all the work and have all the group members work on their part and then bring it all together. We just have to finish putting together our power point and telling each other what part they will say when we present.

Journal(Peer Review Essay #4 recap)

I plan to do a lot of things to this draft. I will make sure that I check for any sentence that may not make sense or may even have errors. I have learned how to make a good essay. In other words, when I look at an essay I have to make sure I am looking for errors that I did not know how to look before. For example, I will look for fragment sentences because if I use a comma wrong it can cause a fragment sentence. I will work on this essay the entire weekend. I will make sure I look at my my essay everyday and focus on one thing at a time. This will help me not feel to over whelmed but at the same time I am getting a lot of work done. When the class had a writing workshop I decided to focus more on comma usage and sentence structure. I choose to focus more about these two topics because I know I have a lot of issues with errors on those two things. I focused one where I have to use a comma and where a semi colon needs to be used. The tutors helped me with my comma usage and they helped me by making sure I did not have any run on sentences or even fragments. They pointed out when I wrote a sentence that did not make since. Also, I learned that when writing your not supposed to have to many ideas in one sentence because then that is how run on sentences start.
